If there was ever a perfect trend for the eco-conscious woman, the mix and match trend is it! This trend doesn’t need to mean mix and match colour as keeping a limited colour palette helps pieces work together. Though if you are brave enough to clash your colours it can. For those a little more reserved here are a few other mix and match ideas.

Offset different patterns like polka dots with stripes or florals with geometrics. Keeping to a similar aesthetic or colour palette can keep your style look together. Add a dotty pair of statement earrings to contract your other patterns with these copper earrings from Wryght Designs.

Offset different styles like tailored blouses with ripped boyfriend jeans and jewellery bling. Mixing casual style in one piece with formal style in another is a great way to wear some of those ‘fancier’ pieces in your wardrobe that you don’t have lots of occasions to wear. This embroidered skirt from Evyie would look fabulous with a casual white tee and denim jacket, and I guess you could wear it for your corporate thing too…

Offset different fabric textures like linens with jersey or wool with silk. This is probably the easiest look to pull out of your existing wardrobe and you can even channel your inner Masterchef with a layering of textures coarse, smooth, silky, heavy, light and crisp. For some vegan bag loving, I adore this cork clutch from By The Sea Collection

Just like the change of fruit and vegetables in the garden, style changes across the seasons. The need to put away your wool and mittens for cotton layers balanced against the new looks of the season. This doesn’t have to mean going out and replacing your whole wardrobe, but adding a few key pieces to your capsule can keep you look stylish.

First Stop : Stripes

I’ve gotta say polka dots seriously outnumber stripes in my wardrobe but ‘make a statement stripes’ are featured on the spring style list. Any stripes will go really, wide uneven pattern stripes, pin stripes, nautical stripes, coloured stripes and the fail safe mono stripe.

Although the designers may love to mismatch their stripes, when working with stripes for every day remember it’s often best to stick to one way stripes paired with a solid block of colour for support. And horizontal stripes will generally add width, where vertical stripes tend to lengthen.

Here are some ideas to work stripes into your wardrobe. This handsome blue pin stripe shirt from Everlane is a nod to the stripe trend. A classic piece that will see you through semi formal interviews paired with a suit, as well as casual picnics with your distressed jeans.

I’m even more in love with this navy collarless cotton dress also from Everlane with it’s elongating vertical stripes and then it’s contract horizontal striped belt.

The Wryght Designs rectangle necklace in brass is a lovely way to nod to stripes (and polka dots) and would contrast well with any vertical stripes.
